Because I don’t bother with New Years Resolutions, I thought a mid-years attempt to actually write something on this blog with a little more regularity might be a good way to go (even if ultimately only I read it!). So look forward to some renewed attempts to remain in communication with the world.
And with that in mind let me start with this (specifically for those relatives who are probably the only people to read this)…does this:

Remind anyone of this?????

I hate pay office, I hate pay office, I hate pay office…..
I appreciate one should probably like pay office, seeing they deposity the pay. I officially hate pay office – BECAUSE THEY NEVER GET IT RIGHT!!!!!
It wasn’t bad enough that this fortnight I was taking a pay cut (a long and sordid story for some other time), but now they haven’t even paid me that much. AHHHHHHH! I have just enough to pay the rent. Thats it. No food this fortnight! (although, little do pay office know it, but they WILL be fixing the problem tomorrow – NOT in the next pay as is their usual want).
I constantly argue that pay office are not required to come to the wards to ensure I treat the patients properly – SO WHY DO I HAVE TO CHECK THEY’VE DONE THEIR JOB PROPERLY?!?
Perhaps this serves me right for being super-on-the-ball and checking this evening to ensure said pay had gone in (they claim Wednesday is our actual pay day for when they run late). I’d almost feel sorry for whomever is the poor sucker destined to be on the pay office desk tomorrow – but I’m so cranky that I really don’t!
PS- At least I’m loving re-re-re-re-watching every episode of the West Wing!
PPS- Turns out I’m about as good as writing on this regularly as I am at writing on everything else thats meant to be regular!

Ok, now that I have your attention, let me tell you how much of a waste of time house inspections are. The estate agent today came to do there obligatory house inspection. In following the wisdom of my friend Greg (”Narelle, the house IS allowed to look lived in, you don’t need to go crazy cleaning”) from a number of years ago I didn’t do anything to prepare (ok, well actually I cleaned the bathroom, but it needed doing anyway). Lucky. Said representative of estate agent was in the house for no more than 102 seconds (it would appear I counted). I’m not sure he even looked in every room (and there really aren’t that many), let alone the back courtyard – there could be anything out there! Really, why bother?

My cousin Tanya posted over here..
http://purplegiraffes.wordpress.com/ about her new scarf

It is a very impressive knitted scarf which she did all by herself. It also “kept her warm” in cold Bundaberg and Brisbane. Please! THEY ARE IN THE TROPICS!!!
This is a real, keep you warm in the cold scarf…

Today I got my boss to sign my annual leave form. This wouldn’t sound like much to many, however we’re talking some serious annual leave as motivation for turning up to work for the next 4 months! Yep, thats right – thats a glimpse of how far in advance one has to apply (my last holiday I had to apply 6 months in advance and even then couldn’t get the dates I wanted!). Anyway, this time around I have leave for ALL of October and the first week in November – 5 glorious weeks! (You can smell the excitement already can’t you?).
So sometime next week I can go to here:

and buy a ticket that goes, here:

here:

and here.

YAY!!!
PS- Oh how I love a long weekend…except when I’m working it

So, I like to cook. Usually it goes quite well. Most often I don’t actually follow the receipe properly. It would appear that sometimes you should.
Recently I bought this new tin – or more specifically not tin, and that proved to be the problem!

Yesterday I had to take morning tea to work. So on Sunday, I decided to bake a cake in the aforementioned “tin” (and some muffins). Behold now, diasters number 1 and 2:

The first disaster ended in the bin. The second disaster became pudding. The third time around I used a proper “tin” (but neglected to take a photo
).
PS – it turns out that perhaps I’m no better at remembering to write on this as I was at any other the other internet forums for the same purpose! But at least I came back….

I always thought Thursday was the best day of the week. My theory being that once you survived Thursday, you’d made to Friday and all would be good. This week has been week 3 of hell – why do all the sick children, get sick and come to hospital AT THE SAME TIME?!?*
Tonight a hefty glass of vino was required in order to make the prospect of Friday bearable.
But better than that…my local fruit shop stocks THE BEST chocolate truffles around. Unfortunately at nearly $7 a bag (for a grand total of 6 in a bag), it requires me to ration them to no more than one a night (lucky that day and night are considered two different things, so sometimes I get more than 1!). So last night I decided to play the truffles at their own game and came up with these:

No more rationing required!
Happy Friday.

Last night my friend Liz and I decided to go to the movies. We saw the best chick flick on offer:

This was most exciting for a number of reasons:
a) I rarely bother going to the movies – I find my own couch much more comfortable (that and I’m probably just cheap)
b) We got to look at Patrick Dempsey for over an hour without interruption (hmmm)
c) We had a social outing on a school night (craziness personified)
d) Half of it was filmed in Scotland. So when it got to this scene:

and this scence:

and this scene

I got to elbow Liz with great delight and say (in hushed movie tones of course) “I’ve been there!”. Turns out Liz doesn’t particularly like her movies interrupted by travel bragging.
Other suprising things:
* I’ve actually written on this thing most days (Tanya are you proud?) – although it has to be said outside words and the occassional picture I’ve no idea what i’m doing.
* Its actually been read (nice work extended family, friends? friends? anyone?)
* Its 9.30pm on a Wednesday and I’m still awake – must be some kind of record

Apparently its all about the pictures. The pictures in question being of the war wounds from last nights game. Sadly (or perhaps gladly) I have none (and truth be told the whacked nose probably feels worse than it looks ie. no one actually noticed). So instead here is this – the girls and I from their weekend visit…..

Its Monday. That means netball. It usually means netball at some ungodly hour of the evening when I’d rather already be asleep, or too close to dinner in which case I worry I may chuck.
Not tonight.
For a positively pleasant change netball was at 6.20pm – most convenient.
Netball is (courtesy of the good folk at Wikipedia) ” a non-contact generally indoor sport similar to, and derived from, basketball. It is usually known as a women’s sport”.
Tonight it was not.
Indoor – Yes
Sport – Yes
Derived from basketball – (well, history tells me) Yes
Women – debatable
Non-contact – I THINK NOT!!!!!
I have a particularly tender, progressively enlarging bump on my nose thanks to my opponents exceptionally pointy elbow. My poor team mate Lisa has a fractured elbow – AND NEITHER OF US GOT THE FREE PASS!
Seriously, I know we need the umpires, but sometimes I think the game would be a whole lot more smooth without them.
Is it bad I really wanted to smack someone by the end???
